Overview of Training Course
A Standard Of Proficiency
General industry consensus has determined the need for a program providing collection personnel with the training to become proficient in urine and alternative (hair, oral fluids, sweat, on-site) specimen collection for drug testing in the workplace. Such a program will aim to ensure that the collection is performed in a professional and consistent manner, maintaining confidentiality for the donor and security, integrity, and control of the specimen. DATIA's training on alternative specimens and on-site testing is the first an only national training and certirfication program covering these types of collections. The diversity of collection sites and employer needs require that a program used to train and certify collection personnel be adaptable to fit the specific requirements of each facility or company and provide consistency and competency throughout the industry. This course provides participants with sufficient resources and teaching tools so that they can develop a program and effectively train their collection personnel for DATIA certification. The course meets the DOT requirements for collector qualification training and proficiency demonstration, and enables participants to serve as monitors of proficiency demonstrations for fellow collectors.
Here you can obtain the classroom portion of the five year refresher requirements for DOT. Mock collections will need to be completed prior to the course.
Course Objective
The objective of the Certified Professional Collector Trainer® (CPCT) program is to provide instruction and resource material to enable the trainer to develop and teach a collector training program that will deliver information to fellow company-employed collection personnel, helping them become proficient in providing collection services according to industry regulations and standards, that ensure the privacy, integrity, and security of the donor and the specimen.
Certification and Accreditation
The Collector Certification Program and Accredited Collection Facility Program, administered by DATIA, involve upholding the highest professional standards in the collection facility and its operation, and the collection facility’s personnel. To obtain accredited status, collection facilities are required to adhere to strict standards in areas such as regulatory compliance, company service standards, specimen handling, operational practices, business ethics, and facility equipment. All accredited collection facilities are also required to maintain a staff of Certified Professional Collectors® (CPC) and at least one Certified Professional Collector Trainer® (CPCT). For more information and a list of all accreditation requirements.
Course Required Experience Level
DATIA's CPCT Training Course is designed for experienced collectors and/ or collection site supervisors. The course is not meant for individuals who have little or no experience in specimen collection procedures. Before taking DATIA's CPCT Training course, participants must first meet the following:
1. 100 completed collections or six months active participation in collection services. 2. Currently employed in a position with active participation in specimen collection services. 3. DOT Required Mock Collections MUST be done prior to the course
Collection Training Overview
Upon successful completion of the course, mock collections (to be done prior to the course), and exam, attendees are awarded the Certified Professional Collector Trainer® (CPCT) designation. This designation is renewable each June, and remains with the instructor regardless of their place of employment. Once certified, the CPCT may train other collection personnel within his/her company in preparation for the Certified Professional Collector® (CPC) exam. Upon successful completion of the exam, the collectors will be awarded the Certified Professional Collector® (CPC) designation. The fee for this designation is $95 annually, with group discount rates available for multiple collectors.
Continuing Education Units
Upon successful completion of the course, attendees receive .75 CEUs (7.5 contact hours) of continuing education credit. Attendees will be provided with a CEU certificate stating the course name, date, sponsoring organization (DATIA) and number of CEUs awarded. These CEUs can be used by attendees for fulfilling continuing education requirements.
Certification Exam Registration
The DATIA CPCT Certification Exam is offered on Thursdays to candidates that have completed the CPCT Training Course, mock collections and signed the program Rules and Regulations. The exam is faxed to candidates from DATIA headquarters by 10:00 AM ET, and the exam must be returned to DATIA by 5:00 PM ET. The exam is expected to take no more than an hour to complete. Exams are not conducted during the course so that the course time can be spent in interactive education.
