Effective July 1, 2002, drug and alcohol testing program managers and C/TPAs may need to alter their standard operating procedures regarding uses of employee social security numbers. California Senate Bill 168 (SB 168) was passed to increase consumer protections against identity theft and allows consumers to place fraud alerts on their credit reports, allows them to freeze their credit records to stop them from being sold, and prohibits businesses and government agencies from many current uses of Social Security numbers. Question: I am having difficulty finding a knowledgeable SAP in the Wilmington NC and Fayetteville NC area. Please help!

Answer:
NAADAC - The Association for Addiction Professionals has an online directory of SAPs that have received the required qualification training to perform SAP functions for DOT testing. It is not stated whether or not these SAPs have taken an exam following their training, however, this requirement does not need to be met until December 31, 2003. The search page is located at http://naadac.org/sap/.
