DATIA Urges Major League Baseball to Implement Credible Drug Testing Program
|
|
In a letter to Commissioner Allen Selig of Major League Baseball (MLB) and Donald Fehr of the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), the Drug and Alcohol Testing Industry Association (DATIA), highlighted issues that must be addressed in formulating an effective and credible testing program. DATIA pointed out that from what has been published concerning the current testing program MLB is considering, it appears that the program will be implemented simply so that MLB players can say they are being drug tested. Read the complete set of issues raised by DATIA. Read DATIA's press release or the letter sent to MLB.

Question & Answer: Excerpts from the DATIA Industry Forum

Question: Should or can a trash can be in the rest room used to collect specimens? The rest room is secure otherwise, no water, bluing in toilet, tank taped down, etc.
Answer: I do not recommend a trash container in the restroom where the collections take place for this reason: If two people from the same company get chosen for a random drug screen, are pretty good friends, one is a user and one is not, the nonuser could make arrangements to void first and leave a clean sample in the trash receptacle. This is not a problem if you check the receptacle after every collection, but a collector could.
