Major League Baseball Players Agree to Drug Testing
|
|
The Washington Post reports that MLB players have agreed to allow unannounced tests for illegal steroids starting in the 2003 season. The union proposed a two-stage process in which players will be tested one or more times to determine if steroids are being used. If that survey shows insignificant use of illegal steroids, a second survey would be conducted in 2004 to verify the results. If the surveys suggest a significant use of steroids (more than 5%), then random, unannounced testing would be instituted for the following two years. Read more about drug testing in MLB.

Question: How do collection sites deal with donors who bring small children with them? When I set up contracts with employers I let them know to instruct the donor to come alone but that has not helped. When this happens our collectors are left to baby-sit while the donor is in the restroom.
Answer: (1) No matter what, the donor must enter the room where he/she is voiding alone. You can either "baby-sit", or set up a policy that states you will not provide collection services if it means a child will be unsupervised. I prefer the 2nd option, as liability becomes an issue.
Answer: (2) Agree - what we do is that the employee is responsible to find someone at the company to take care of their children. But we must also make sure that the test is accomplished in a timely manner, which means that we may have to be a babysitter.
