Sen. John McCain introduced the Clean Sports Act on Tuesday, which DATIA applauds for introducing uniform standards for drug testing in professional sports and the requirement for programs to be administered independently.
DATIA has continuously advocated for sports to adopt industry standards into their drug testing programs, including year-round random testing, tests for masking agents, and requirements that all collections and testing are done by parties independent of the sport. The Clean Sports Act incorporates all of those standards for a consistent, effective, and fair testing program. The legislation requires that professional sports implement testing programs that are at least as stringent as the program for the Olympics through the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, and encourages other sports to do the same. Olympic-level drug testing is considered the “gold standard” of sports drug testing.
