DOT Issues Major Rule Change! |

The Department of Transportation (DOT) issued major changes to its CFR 49 Part 40 Regulations today, June 25, 2008. This is a final rule change, and becomes effective August 25, 2008. The DOT amended certain provisions to change instructions to collectors, laboratories, medical review officers, and employers regarding adulterated, substituted, diluted, and invalid urine specimen results. This Final Rule makes specimen validity testing mandatory within regulated transportation industries. Teen Drug Testing Debate on Capital Hill |
DATIA management had the distinct pleasure of attending a debate on Capitol Hill yesterday hosted by Inverness Medical, which debated the pros and cons of drug-testing teens at home by a parent, within the school system, or not at all. The debate featured three panelists:
• Debbie Moak, co-founder of teen drug abuse prevention organization notMYkid, who believes that parents using home drug tests are the best deterrent to drug abuse.
• Trent Coffey, executive director of Schools Together Allowing No Drugs (STAND), who holds the opinion that drug testing should be administered at school.
• Kris Krane, executive director of Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP), who believes that physicians – not parents or schools – should be the only people administering drug tests. |

DOL's Drug-Free Work Week 2008 |

Drug-Free Work Week will officially kick-off in 2008 on October 20th. From October 20-26, this annual week will highlight the benefits drug-free workplace programs provide to employers, workers and communities. Each Drug-Free Work Week promotes how drug-free workplaces: prevent accidents and make workplaces safer, improve productivity and reduce costs and encourage people to seek help for alcohol and drug problems.
