DATIA submitted comments to the Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools on their notice of proposed eligibility and application requirements, priorities, and selection criteria for school-based student drug testing programs. DATIA was pleased to see that grants will be available to private entities wishing to assist local educational agencies with non-punitive student drug testing programs. There are many private sector drug testing service providers that have the experience, knowledge, innovation, and technologies to effectively institute student drug testing programs. DATIA asked the Department, however, to clarify the kind of drug testing programs that may be conducted. Click here to read DATIA’s comments in PDF.
