The HHS Mandatory Guidelines for Federal Workplace Drug Testing Programs (June 9, 1994) and DOT regulations (49 CFR Part 40) require Federal agencies and regulated employers, respectively, to submit blind urine quality control samples to laboratories along with their donor specimens.

The following list of suppliers selling urine quality control samples has been compiled for information purposes only. It does not constitute an endorsement of the suppliers by HHS or DOT. The list includes only those suppliers who have requested to be included on the list.

When a quality control sample is purchased, the supplier must provide the following documentation:

(1) The content has been certified by immunoassay and GC/MS; and
(2) The expiration date.

These urine quality control samples are DEA registered Exempt Chemical Preparations intended for in vitro diagnostic/forensic usage (21 CFR 1308.24). The purchaser is not required to hold a DEA license to acquire and use (redistribute) the QC samples as part of a Workplace drug testing program. However, the purchaser should ensure that the supplier complies with this DEA required exemption.
